Most international flights land and take off from Saigon. It's a big, busy, hot and sometimes confusing city. Some people love it and others hate it. I think it's a lot of fun. There are so many good restaurants you could eat in a different place every day for months. Saigon also offers a wide variety of hotels and attractions. There are several destinations that are day trips from Saigon; Cu Chi tunnels, Tay Ninh and the Mekong Delta, to name a few. There are also many attractions in close proximity; the Notre Dame Cathedral, pagodas and museums. The traffic here is an attraction in itself. It is wheel-to-wheel motorcycles, bicycles, cyclos and taxis. Many of the streets are crowded with vendors selling all types of items. Haircuts and massages are being done right on the street, and all types of food stands everywhere. I enjoy just walking the streets and taking it all in. UPDATE 2007 Since I first started this website things have changed in Saigon. It has gotten even more crowded, more expensive and more hectic. It seems like the word’s out on Westerners as easy marks, even more than it was. You can hardly talk to anyone without it becoming some type of hustle. There seems to be an even bigger baby boom than before. There are babies everywhere. For some reason they all want to have boys and will go to extremes to make sure that’s what they have. I don’t know why, because the women and girls seem to do the majority of the work, go figure. |
