The Mekong Delta is formed by the multiple tributaries of the Mekong River, that starts in the Tibetan highlands and travels through China, Myanmar (Burma), Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam, and empties into the South China Sea. It is one of the major agricultural areas in Vietnam, rice, fruit, etc. The Mekong Delta spreads out with many fingers of the river, large canals, small canals and places that are only accessible by boat. The Delta is only a few hours from Saigon by bus and is a good place to spend one or two days. Trips can be arranged at hotels or by many of the local tour companies. I toured a candy factory, banana wine making distillery, I saw native dancers, floating markets and structures built right up to the water. It's one of the must-see places. |
