Kim Tien I first met Kim Tien in Phuoc Vinh at her family's roadside cafe in 2003. I had gone there because it was the first place I was stationed during the war. My friends and I rented a van in Saigon and drove the 85km until I saw a river that looked familiar. We stopped for a beer at a roadside cafe next to the river. That cafe is owned by her family and Kim Tien was the cashier. I gave her my business card and asked her to write to me. She did and we've been friends ever since. Kim Tien now is in her second year at the university in Ho Chi Minh City. She also studies English at night at a second school. She has accompanied me along with other friends to several of my destinations. My wife, Debbie, and I are planning to return soon so Debbie can meet Kim Tien and see the country.
